Warnings

Warning: Scams

Details:
Well there are back targeting the members who use this site. We can not give out the details that we are given but by all means you can share them between yourselves.
Unfortunately we cannot do anything about this as there is no restrictions on anyone reading these adverts.
If we made everybody sign in it still wouldn't stop the problem as the scammers, who seem to be genuine would just sign in.

What can be done is for the advertisers to be be more aware.

It seems as if the pattern is repeated.
The seller works away, fishing vessel seems to be a common one.
They always need a bank transfer.

Now a few questions:
Do they supply photographs?
Do they seem knowledgeable ?

One way to sort a scammer out would be to tell them you have a friend in the area who is prepared to collect and pay cash.
Anyone backing away from this would seem very suspect to me.
Don't use payment methods that you cannot reverse (PayPal and that type of site will protect you from this type of scam and they won't use it)
Now when a bank transfer is made and nothing happens has anyone contacted the police in the area the bank is located ? This is fraud after all.

If you do want to post information on this please visit our forums.
You can also report it to the police via Action Fraud or on 0300 123 2040
Very easy to do they collate all Fraud with the Metropolitan Police, this was a request from a person at Action Fraud.

Re: materials tools bits and bobs

I'm glad you think it might be useful. I forgot to give details:

The place is run by James and Verity Ashton - young (by my standards!) brother and sister who appear to have inherited a trading business from their father. James deals in the machinery while Verity looks after the web and ebay side of things plus trading in all sorts of other stuff. They are assisted on the machinery side by Andy (or might be Alan, never was much good with names) who is an former employee of Rotagrip of Coventry.

The phone number is 01886880186

I don't have a post code but the coordinates are N52 07.473 W2 25.555. I hope that's helpful! It's only a small track off the main road which leads past a former farm house to the barns at the back.

My Holbrook C10, Studer OB grinder and Meddings bench drill all came from there along with various minor bits and pieces.

Good luck

Re: materials tools bits and bobs

Hi Mike,

There's a machine trader, 'Find ur Stuff' (own web site plus ebay) based in Seed Farm. It's on the A4103 from Worcester to Hereford, so just creeps into your target area. They've got three or more barns full of all sorts. The downside is that much of it is uncatalogued and takes a bit of searching for. They don't spcifically sell materials, but if you get to know them and find something that can be modified for your purpose it's probably nearly as good.

Good luck,

Nick

materials tools bits and bobs

Title: materials and tools

Is there anywhere in the Gloucestershire Worcestershire Hereford triangle where I might find a supplier of second hand tools bits of sheet material, cob ends of brass, fixings and general usefull stuff.

Having recently moved to Gloucestershire area I have lost my normal supplier at Leeside tools Yapton sussex ( no connection) and have now realised how bereft I feel......
Any help, pointers and suggestions would be happily received.
