Warning: Scams

Details:
Well there are back targeting the members who use this site. We can not give out the details that we are given but by all means you can share them between yourselves.
Unfortunately we cannot do anything about this as there is no restrictions on anyone reading these adverts.
If we made everybody sign in it still wouldn't stop the problem as the scammers, who seem to be genuine would just sign in.

What can be done is for the advertisers to be be more aware.

It seems as if the pattern is repeated.
The seller works away, fishing vessel seems to be a common one.
They always need a bank transfer.

Now a few questions:
Do they supply photographs?
Do they seem knowledgeable ?

One way to sort a scammer out would be to tell them you have a friend in the area who is prepared to collect and pay cash.
Anyone backing away from this would seem very suspect to me.
Don't use payment methods that you cannot reverse (PayPal and that type of site will protect you from this type of scam and they won't use it)
Now when a bank transfer is made and nothing happens has anyone contacted the police in the area the bank is located ? This is fraud after all.

If you do want to post information on this please visit our forums.
You can also report it to the police via Action Fraud or on 0300 123 2040
Very easy to do they collate all Fraud with the Metropolitan Police, this was a request from a person at Action Fraud.

31 year old SUZUKI going to bonneville salt flats

31 year old SUZUKI going to bonneville salt flats

as keen as i am to have my off roadtruck [featured here] progressed-this project has taken priority-we are a mere 22 days from shipping-and still not quite finnished-but not concerned-
spec-1981 suzuki gsx1100-bored to 1327cc-st-st and titanium valves and kibblewhite springs , webb g7 and g13 cams , fully bronze skulled head , 44mm lectrons , barnett clutch , r&d pro transmission with worldwide ceramic bearings ,branch funnybike crank ,katana 293 rods , j e pistons ,NOS nitrous system with SCHNITZ pnc 3000 control ,dyna 2000 digital programable ignition , F.A.S.T. A/F ratio controller- twin lambda ,2x data loggers-
we hope to see around 180bhp aspirated , and 300 plus with the NOS-we have 4 sets of gearing and if the bike will hold 11200rpm at altitude , with the big gear set it will equate to 225mph-we are aiming to go over 174mph-which is as fast as we can find anyone has been on an old skool multi-i do know that holding on to a bike with no aero and no bodywork can be hairy at anything over 160mph -we shall see-wish us luck-

Re: 31 year old SUZUKI going to bonneville salt flats

Looks a lot smarter now than in the (out of focus) picture Vicki sent me last month!  Guess I gotta finish de-scruffing her K75.
Best of luck at Bonneville.

Thought the bike should be an Indian. I think you but boot polish on the tyres to hide the cracks.  Best of luck, I have been on a motorbike once never again, but I do admire anybody who can hang on at 160 mph. Do let us know how you get on.

Re: 31 year old SUZUKI going to bonneville salt flats

Good luck PJ, it'll be something remember for sure. Always wanted to visit Bonneville but life keeps getting in the way. Been 215.7mph over here on the runway but I'm told it's a lot tougher on the salt - not much grip and a rough ride too.
Glad to see you got your licensing runs out of the way so you can focus all your efforts on the bike.

FYI - the fastest I know of anyone achieving on an aircooled multi of that era is Lorcan Parnell on his GPZ750 turbo at 211.0mph (www.750turbo.com)

Victor - looking at the spec of his bike he is able to run the newest tyres, which are rated past 187mph but are actually good for well past 200 and some people have been past 300 on road tyres.

Re: 31 year old SUZUKI going to bonneville salt flats

I wish all who attempt speed records all the best as a UK sprint rider of the early 1970 who has first hand knowledge of the success and pitfalls of record attempts you should achieve your goals seeing the preparation that you have done.

If the side winds are not great the bike should be stable.

My scrap heap naked double engined triumph did a wheely at about 197mph? in 1974 at a private record attempt on Elvington.

It was caused by a side wind (wind sock horizontal) that made it so no fairing could be used.

Thumbs up, Paul (Windy)

cheers all- well aware of lorcans superb machine-wish they still made them!
we are looking at bonneville only-and we have no turbo-and no fairing-a real blunt instrument-we failed to meet the dyno deadline, we have next weekend left then it,s container time-

Re: 31 year old SUZUKI going to bonneville salt flats

last update-we put all 6 bikes in the container tomorrow morning sealit and ship it-we had a dyno day that went horribly wrong-showing up some bad faults in our head and our carbs-all high price parts built by others-after a very long session in two workshops we got them where we wanted to be-
175bhp -@ 100lb/ft 300 bhp with NOS-we,ll go with that.
AVON our tyre sponsor test to 200mph , but will not give us written proff thanks to the ever useful lawyers/accountants b.s.-so we can only run for numbers and not records.

PJ   As someone who scared himself s..tless over 50 years ago riding a Norton Dominator at full bore down the fairly new M1, (no speed limits in those days) wish you all the luck in the world in your endeavour.

I didn't say it was a perfect plan.

Re: 31 year old SUZUKI going to bonneville salt flats

Anyone heard from PJ? The results are incomplete but I do see a 161.297mph on the Tuesday which is fantastic for an old aircooled at that altitude, but the last run on the Wednesday was 73.8mph so I hope that doesn't mean they had engine troubles. Unfortunately the last two days' results aren't listed.

I see that the BBC were also covering the event so we could be seeing them on TV soon too!

Re: 31 year old SUZUKI going to bonneville salt flats

hey pete-well spotted-the best run i got was 164mph-which is streetbike speeds but we lost the motor-either salt ingestion, oil issues or the skulls have moved in the head again-either way it was not too bad-got my C licence-which is good for another 3 years-we suffered with a wandering misfire, the ram air didn,t work out-i had my doubts, but it was worth a try-the fastest speeds were done just below the power,so there is a lot to come from this bike-very enjoyable event, the salt was in the  best shape for years, it was just over too quick-the bike got a lot of attention, and some really positive comments-which was most gratifying---- -yes the BBC will airing a two hour documentary on BBC2 in january next year-'a summer of speed' i thinkhttp://www.homeworkshop.org.uk/components/com_agora/img/members/115/mini_bonneville-2012-485-Small.jpghttp://www.homeworkshop.org.uk/components/com_agora/img/members/115/mini_bonneville-2012-567-Small.jpg

Cool - I thought that last run was the engine going sick but was hoping it was a less serious technical problem.

Who is the rider in the pics?

PJ,
Happy New Year,  the BBC2 programme about Bonneville that you mentioned back in August is advertised for Sunday 6 Jan at 2200. This is Pt 1.  Entitled "Speed Dreams : The Fastest Place on Earth".

I assume you are the "PJ.....metal fanatic" mentioned in the write-up?

Compulsory attendance for all forum members!

Re: 31 year old SUZUKI going to bonneville salt flats

happy new year to all forum members and their families-
thanks for the heads up-although i dont claim to be a 'metal head'-whatever that may be,trust the BBC to make it up as they go- !" the tv documentary airs on the 6th and 13th of january at 10:00pm on BBC2-should be plenty of lathes, mills, shapers etc in the first episode, which shows the building stages of the bikes, the second part of the two hour long show details our adventures in america-not seen it my self-hope you all enjoy it-
june 2013 we are holding a beach race on PENDINE SANDS-
so i,ll have to come out of the workshop again-curses!
