Warning: Scams

Details:
Well there are back targeting the members who use this site. We can not give out the details that we are given but by all means you can share them between yourselves.
Unfortunately we cannot do anything about this as there is no restrictions on anyone reading these adverts.
If we made everybody sign in it still wouldn't stop the problem as the scammers, who seem to be genuine would just sign in.

What can be done is for the advertisers to be be more aware.

It seems as if the pattern is repeated.
The seller works away, fishing vessel seems to be a common one.
They always need a bank transfer.

Now a few questions:
Do they supply photographs?
Do they seem knowledgeable ?

One way to sort a scammer out would be to tell them you have a friend in the area who is prepared to collect and pay cash.
Anyone backing away from this would seem very suspect to me.
Don't use payment methods that you cannot reverse (PayPal and that type of site will protect you from this type of scam and they won't use it)
Now when a bank transfer is made and nothing happens has anyone contacted the police in the area the bank is located ? This is fraud after all.

If you do want to post information on this please visit our forums.
You can also report it to the police via Action Fraud or on 0300 123 2040
Very easy to do they collate all Fraud with the Metropolitan Police, this was a request from a person at Action Fraud.

PCL air connectors

PCL air connectors

Does anyone know if PCL connectors can be used for vacuum or do they need internal pressure to seal??

TIA

Bob

Re: PCL air connectors

If you can connect the pair of connectors to an air line with no regard to flow,I would imagine they are ok on vacuum. If you think about it putting the large female part on the air tool and the male part on the pipe from the compressor is same as applying vacuum with the connectors reversed. Having said this I've got my doubts now ! I think also it will depend on how much vacuum you propose to use. Have a look at vacuum bag press systems and see what they use.

Re: PCL air connectors

Thanks Ashley,
A vacuum bag is what I want to make. I saw a demo recently but only from a distance and the connector looked a bit like a PCL or the slightly shorter quick release connector than tend to come on imported air tools (I don't know the name) they are generally poorly made and not always interchangeable so I tend to swap them for PCL.

I now have a little vacuum pump given to me by a mate  so all I need now is a gauge and I can set up a test.

Cheers

Bob

Re: PCL air connectors

Bob.I made a vacuum bag press. I had two problems well one really my vacuum pump ran all the time and got a bit warm and I worried that it would give up before the glue set,I wanted to get a vacuum switch so it would turn on & off to maintain the vacuum, I never did but a bleed valve may well have worked. The bag I made out of heavy duty polythene sheet sealed with duct tape for the permanant joins and rolled on to two batterns and clipped with large spring clanps for the work entry end. I used a car inner tube valve with valve bit removed and cut from the inner tube with about a 6" circle of rubber attached to make the vacuuum entry I think I glued it to the inside of the bag with evo stick. The bag part is almost self sealing so joins are not much of an issue however holes in the polythene were. The base board was MDF with 6mm machined grooves to allow the vacuum to spread evenly. Most of my ideas came from a Fine Woodwoking book on veneering that I picked up in the States. I'm on holiday now ( its raining !)but can get you the ISBN once I'm home. AS I said I gave up because of the vacuum pump, I will try again one day when a project needs it but I find veneering flat surfaces easy enough using PVA and a hot iron.

Re: PCL air connectors

Ashley, you can make a simple cut-off using a vacuum advance unit off an old car distributor and a microswitch. I got the idea from a magazine article on epoxy-veneering model aircraft wings in a vacuum bag. You mount the advance unit to a small bracket and fit the switch so it opens by a fitting on the pulling-arm at your desired vacuum. It's a very simple arrangement.

Incidentally, I used to use copydex to apply veneer to foam cores for my planes.

Re: PCL air connectors

Pete Excellent, the water fill shut  off valve from a washing machine was suggested to me but the advance & retard idea seems easier  as the vacuum "pressure" is higher than the water fill valve which I think are also pressure not vacuum operated.

Indeed the water shut off valve operate at a few inches of water (positive pressure) for obvious reasons.
