Warning: Scams

Details:
Well there are back targeting the members who use this site. We can not give out the details that we are given but by all means you can share them between yourselves.
Unfortunately we cannot do anything about this as there is no restrictions on anyone reading these adverts.
If we made everybody sign in it still wouldn't stop the problem as the scammers, who seem to be genuine would just sign in.

What can be done is for the advertisers to be be more aware.

It seems as if the pattern is repeated.
The seller works away, fishing vessel seems to be a common one.
They always need a bank transfer.

Now a few questions:
Do they supply photographs?
Do they seem knowledgeable ?

One way to sort a scammer out would be to tell them you have a friend in the area who is prepared to collect and pay cash.
Anyone backing away from this would seem very suspect to me.
Don't use payment methods that you cannot reverse (PayPal and that type of site will protect you from this type of scam and they won't use it)
Now when a bank transfer is made and nothing happens has anyone contacted the police in the area the bank is located ? This is fraud after all.

If you do want to post information on this please visit our forums.
You can also report it to the police via Action Fraud or on 0300 123 2040
Very easy to do they collate all Fraud with the Metropolitan Police, this was a request from a person at Action Fraud.

Three phase supply to bridgeport

Re: Three phase supply to bridgeport

Hi Richard,
Doing a bit of research it seems the earlier machines with the belt change head had dual speed motors. The later machines had a variable speed head controlled by belt and variable pulleys on the same principle as my Raglan lathe.
I just want to use the machine transformer as it will be a more tidy solution with the added benefit of a low voltage supply for machne lighting etc (as origional wiring).
As for motor pick up the main switch case seems to be the best bet.
I'll let you know how it pans out.

Re: Three phase supply to bridgeport

Hi Richard,
I didn't realise it was the Varispeed head. I think you still need to reverse the motor when you engage the backgear/low speed range so it might be useful to retain the head mounted For/Rev switch or you will need to add at least one extra button to reverse the inverter.

Re: Three phase supply to bridgeport

Hi all,
An update, I used an E2 series 2hp phase converter purchased from drives direct to drive the head, coupled to a remote pod (for stop, start, reverse and speed potentiometer). This along with an emergency stop switch and configuring the motor to run on 3 phase 220v.
The table feed was run on 240v using the transformer already incorporated in the origional mill switch cabinet. This gives the added benifit of low voltage supply to the lighting.
The coolant pump has not been sorted as yet, also I've not got a solution to the spindle / feed interlock.
The mill performs faultlessly and I am very pleased with the solution.
