For Sale: A group of electronics test meters (5 in all)

Fri 30th Mar '18

Advert ID: 32601

Tools
Details:
I have a group of test meters for sale. Among them are an AVO-Meter Eight, Mark 7, and a GPO version. Please see photographs.

As far as I have been able to ascertain from the vendor, they all work, though I’d be happy to make them available for viewing and checking (at B28, Birmingham).
I am unable to offer or imply any form of guarantee as I have no means of testing them.

I purchased the group on behalf of an old friend who was a keen electronics geek, and who has since sadly left us, so I’m looking to find a good home for them.
There are 5 (five) meters in all.
Would prefer to sell as a group for £150.00, or as follows:
1. The AVO-Meter Eight, Mark 7 £55.00
2. The ‘Micronta’, range-doubler £30.00
3. The leather cased GPO 12 C/1 meter £35.00
4. The steel cased ASDIC meter (ADM Pattern 2668) part of the equipment used for detecting submarines in WW2 £75.00
5. The unidentified wooden cased meter (no information available) £30.00

Please feel free to email me for further information, or photographs of specific aspects of the meters.

The basis on which the sale/s is/are offered is:
* Collection only
* Cash on collection preferred or PayPal in advance
* No returns

I am finally getting around to machining a Stuart Dynamo from a casting kit. Inside the main body are the two cast iron cores to create the magnet. You will see this from the pic. and also the magnet itself which sits in a well underneath. My question...Can someone please tell me if the magnet should actually touch the cores or should there be a gap. If there should be a gap is there an ideal one. Thanks in anticipation. Alan

For Sale: VINTAGE 'Manus' belt-driven vacuum pump for restoration.

Fri 30th Mar '18

Advert ID: 32597

General
Details:
This is a RESTORATION project!
The item is a vintage 'MANUS' (Swedish) belt-driven vacuum pump, believed to be from the 1940's. It is understood to have been widely used in industry, and in agriculture where it powered milking machines.
The item has been stripped, but ongoing illness has forced me to reduce my previous activities, thus several of my larger 'projects' are being disposed of, including the 'Manus'.
It can be viewed by prior arrangement in B28 (Birmingham).
Because of the weight of the item, it is COLLECTION ONLY.
Payment: cash on collection or PayPal in advance.
No Guarantee is offered or implied.

Information: Motor capacitor

Sun 25th Mar '18

Advert ID: 32556

General
Details:
Hi.
I’m looking for some advice from the electric motor boffins amongst us.
I have an old single phase motor with an externally mounted capacitor.
Motor works fine, but the wiring to/from the capacitor is perished.
The capacitor appears to be a sealed cylinder with no access to the inner workings to replace the wiring.
Are these capacitors non serviceable? There is no end cap or join to indicate that they can be disassembled.
Plan B is to cut back the perished insulation as best I can, crimp in some new cable, then heat shrink the complete repair.
Many thanks in advance.
