Details:
You are looking at a refurbished mill from the Defence Research Establishment at Boscombe Down. This mill was supplied under the previous organisation in 1959, which researched into aeronautical development.

Headliners at a glance:

The mill is equipped with a recently manufactured raising block which gives vastly more flexibility than standard.
The mill has had a new design of feed-screw engagement mechanism and lever as shown.
The mill has upgraded adjustable micrometer collars and handwheels, the original ones are also provided.
The mill has, not pictured, over arm for horizontal milling and arbor and all spacers.
A machine vice can be supplied for an extra £20, this was one I made with a large capacity and organised for fixing to the table.
The chuck shown is my own little Jacobs, and is not part of the sale.
The mill is fitted out to take magnetic read heads from M-DRO, bracketry and housings are provided, read strip already fitted with guard on table x and y axes ready for you to fit the heads in the fittings and brackets I have made.
The mill is equipped with the somewhat rare table feed motor with its manufacturer's gearbox for selection of feed rates.
The mill comes with a digital phase converter as it is wired for 400V operation.
Original suds pump is included in the base of the manufacturer's cabinet stand

Background info

The mill is arranged now for bench mounting, although mounted on the cabinet stand: the reason was a certain drumming coming from the cabinet stand when the motor is mounted in there. If you go to the Centec Enthusiasts site, you will find that this is universally experienced. The mill has been used since 2011 in a flat, and so noise reduction was paramount. In addition, a resilient vibro-absorbant base has been made and the mill mounted on it as shown. The original rear belt cover does not fit with this arrangement, the bench arrangement, which does not matter if it is on a bench as the belts are not accessible from behind. The belt cover is provided as part of this listing though.

The mill cuts beautifully and is very sturdy and vibration free, it is also quiet for a geared mill, sounding like a very refined commercial food-mixer at speed.

For interest, the mill horizontal spindle has been used (not by me) to mount a large diameter light faceplate on which was then turned from a lathe rear-toolpost mounted on the table, the flywheel for a 4"-scale traction engine. This shows how solid and sturdy is this machine, working well beyond its capacity. However for end milling, light cuts are the order of the day, for more metal removal you need to mount the horizontal gear.

The mill can fit in a volvo estate when broken down. I have a palette truck which can lift up to about a meter from the ground and can acquire pallets. The mill is currently coated with WD 40 and the gearbox emptied of oil ready for collection preferably by van.

The mill can be collected from Littlehampton South Coast near Bognor Regis. I can take texts on 07 881 098 169 but you'll be lucky to get through if you try to 'phone me as I work on site and it's noisy there. Office for messages is 01 903 734 695.
