New formatting codes added to the description field. **Bold** --Italic-- and __Underline__ will be converted to HTML5 codes Bold, Italic and Underline. You can use **__combination__** to give a **--__impact__--**. The codes will work over multiple lines so check with the preview that it is formatted correctly, you can copy the codes to make sure you have the right ones. Abuse will result in adverts being deleted.
New photo upload system that will use the inbuilt camera function of phones and tablets, check the images as you need to correct the pictures if they are not rotating correctly. Bad images will be removed. If you are getting a blank page with just a logo the images failed. Try using a copy saved to your computer and not a webshare. The server can only use web safe jgp, gif or png images and not viseos. If you see a page with only the logo after uploading the images it faid to upload the photo due to restraints so please used saved images of less than 10MB each in that case.
Web URL links have been updated to allow the newer TLD (Top Level Domains) and allow the number domains. It will now search for the links in the details text adding a https:// to any it finds to help avoid weaker links. It will also pick up typo's like no space after a full stop, so we request checking the preview of your advert and using the edit button to correct mistakes.
Use correct sentience formatting rules, a space after the colon: semi-colon; comma, full stop. and exclamation! characters. URL address will use words with dots between the words without spaces and if the system sees these it will treat them as URL links. So please use the preview, it allows you access to the edit button, to change the mistakes otherwise the adverts will just be removed.
NEW! logo after 10 years the tread board needed repainting, if any remember the old Green text logo might remember how the tread patten ended up becoming the background. The photos have also been upgraded to add logo's and date/time stamps to the images on upload so that the photos are noticeable for people linking to them.

Details: I am setting up my workshop to keep me out of mischief in my retirement. I want a single phase metal lathe. I am torn between the functionality of a modern “Chinese” lathe and an older Myford type which is more substantial but possibly worn. Any lathe coming with lots of extras, tools, etc would be an advantage. My large workshop is at bottom of the garden so needs to be transported across grass which limits its size I suspect. . My priorities are as follows:
Essential Features Screwcutting Backgear Tumble Reverse. Provision to fit T slotted cross slide. 2 Morse taper in tailstock . Set-over tailstock for taper turning . Gearing to handle on apron traverse
Desirable Features. Quick-set or 4-way tool holder. Gap bed (up to 3.5"/90mm centre height) . Dial-thread indicator for screwcutting . Spindle lock to aid removal of chucks. Automatic disengage to saddle drive . Provision to mount collets . Graduated tailstock barrel
Non-Essential but Useful Features. Screwcutting gearbox. Power cross feed. Clutch to headstock spindle drive. 1" (26mm) or larger hole through spindle. Coolant equipment . Graduated handle to leadscrew end . Availability of lever-action tailstock . Electronic or mechanical variable-speed drive
Details: Wanted Chester DB-10G Bench Lathe drive (toothed) and V belts. Has anyone got a spare pair I can purchase or know any where I can obtain from. Many thanks.

Details: I'm looking for a Raglan 5in lathe fixed steady, but anything of that size that can be modified will do fine. The Raglan has a flat bed, but not bothered whether the steady is flat or vee, if it can be adapted.
So spend the next Covid lockdown rummaging in the piles of unused bits and let me know!

Details: Hi all - since interested parties are schocked by the cost of postage, I'll take it upon myself to pay most of it. It really needs to go to someone who'll build it. So the price listed is incl. postage.
Here the original advert:
I bought this complete kit some years ago.
I was intrigued by this small grinder, that could do about anything.
But now I have bought a tool grinder, I won't be building this.
It's all there, with spiralled column and grinding wheels etc.
As Brexit is just around the corner, it's last chance to get it.
Hemingway has made beautiful plans to make it into a Mark 3. (CAD drawings bothe metric and imperial)

Details: Hi Does anyone in swarfland have any information on the Boxford VM30 milling machine.
I am aware that limited information (operating manual and electrical wiring) is available from https://lathes.co.uk but it does not contain the information I require which is more akin to a parts breakdown and information on the correct grease used in the gearbox. There is some conflicting information out there regarding the grease with a few different types specified some which do not seem to be available and others only supplied in huge kegs. These machines seem to suffer from lubricant leakage from the spindle when the machine gets warm and I just want to clarify what type of sealing there may have been (if any) from new to prevent this happening.
Any information would be welcome. Thanks in anticipation.
Models Project Build (Major parts may still need building
Details: This advert follows a previous advert where the parts were unidentified. They have now been identified as pertaining to a 5" gauge "Maid of Kent" build. This is a 4-4-0 Tender Locomotive designed by LBSC and based on the Southern Railway Maunsell "L1" class. All castings necessary to complete this loco are available from AJ Reeves. It can be built with inside or outside cylinders and was described in Model Engineer Vols 97-101
The parts consist of a very well made round top boiler and the following castings: - the driving / coupled wheels - Front bogie wheels - Main horn guides - Tender horn guides - Tender springs - Tender axleboxes - Gunmetal block - ? purpose
Details: Hi. I have too many collet chucks. This is a very nice Clarkson medium size collet Chuck with a 3 morse taper shank. It does show some signs of use but it’s very nice condition. Only one collet it’s 1 inch, others are available normally on EBay, you can get a 20,25mm and a 3/4 inch one to fit. Comes with the big spanner for the nose but no C spanner for the stabilising ring. The stabilising ring is LH thread and tightens up to the quill to give better stability handy for removing the chuck too. The centre that locates in the cutter is in good condition. Complete with box it’s very heavy.
